Summary
CHIRK has a colourful history - as you'd expect from a little Welsh stronghold walking distance from the English border and the site of a great battle between Henry II and the locals in 1165.
The jewel in its crown is its wonderful mediaeval castle. It was built in 1295 as part of Edward I's"ring of iron" across North Wales. It is believed to stand on the site of a previous castle, Castell Crogan, built in 1011.See the full content of this document
