Summary
I REFER to the Plaid Cymru candidate's letter (January 22) regarding how they will fund their very expensive pension policy. I discretion wholly agree with Age Concern that the basic state pension is too low but this blatant electioneering by Plaid Cymru is pie in the sky politics at its best (or worst!).
Plaid Cymru are being very irresponsible by promising pension increases to older and vulnerable people. First of all, they know that they will never have to deliver this policy and secondly, but most importantly, they are ignoring the fiscal realities we face. The Institute For Fiscal Studies (IFS) estimated it would cost pounds 20bn a year to provide a universal state pension at this level. Plaid Cymru needs to wake up to the realities we are facing. Money is tight.See the full content of this document
