IT was to Waterloo's credit that they led against Birmingham Solihull up to the 18th minute but with the opposition picking a strong team from their full-time professionals, it was only a matter of time before the home side was overwhelmed.

Nevertheless, Waterloo could take more than a little comfort. There were also some fine performances from Bell in the back row and young Dominic McVeigh, making his starting debut on the right wing. McVeigh had been on the bench for every game this season as reserve scrum-half. He seized his chance and was defensively excellent, demonstrating how to make tackles count.
