FOR tram network, read rollercoaster ride. A week ago, there was enormous confidence in informed Liverpool circles that the Merseytram project would get the government funding it needed to go ahead. On Monday, optimism turned to despair and anger with the news that the Government was set to scupper the project by ludicrously digging its heels in and refusing to acknowledge the impact of inflation on the pounds 170m contribution it was asked for almost three years ago.
