IMPROVING rail services between Liverpool and Manchester, and other routes, would boost the North's economy by an estimated pounds 16bn, according to the Northern Way think tank.

Its report into increasing the capability of the rail network in and around Manchester suggests investment is required to deliver quicker and more frequent journeys between cities to stimulate economic recovery in the region.
