TO produce algae, Merlin is harnessing the photosynthetic power of the tiny organisms, which capture carbon dioxide and sunlight to produce oxygen and biomass.

The same process can be used to make biofuel. Such fuels are too expensive to be commercially viable, but high oil prices, land shortages and the world food crisis have ignited interest in algaculture.
