THE cost of private medical insurance has soared by more than three times the rate of inflation in the past six years, new research shows.

Since 1999, premiums for the cover have jumped by 37%, compared with an increase of just 12% for the Retail Price Index during the same period, according to private medical insurer Pru Health.
