Where is it? Trefriw and hills above the village. What's the attraction? Lakes, woodland, abandoned mine workings and a dramatic, little-known waterfall. How do I get there? Take the B5106 south from Conwy or north from Betws-y-Coed. Free parking in the centre of Trefriw (grid ref 782 620), turn left (from Conwy) immediately after crossing the single-carriageway bridge in the village. How long does it take? Two to three hours. Difficulty rating? Easy. Lanes and clearly signed paths; steepish outward leg. Let's go...

I've lived within 10 or 12 miles of Tefriw for most of the last 30 years and explored every mountain and lake nearby. But I never realised that one of the most striking sights in the Conwy Valley and surrounding hills is hidden away in the village itself the Fairy Falls. I've walked past them dozens of times without even knowing they were there.
