THE case for a rise in interest rates lost one of its key advocates at the Bank of England this month.

Paul Tucker had voted in favour of lifting the cost of borrowing from 4.75% in March and April, but minutes from the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) this month showed he was no longer supporting such a move.
