Like Ronaklo, Coppell helped United to win the FA Cup but the League Championship ultimately eluded him at a time when one of his hometown clubs was regularly conquering Europe.

It would take United another decade to lift the title after Coppell was prematurely forced to hang up his boots aged 28 in 1983 due to a knee injury.
