ENGLAND'S training squad has again raised questions concerning the relationship between the two codes, with the media split between those who applaud Brian Ashton's courageous decision and those who have always been sceptical about anything concerning rugby league.

Even Jason Robinson had to win his spurs and was heavily criticised in certain newspapers before receiving a standing ovation and bordering on sycophantic adulation following his final appearance at Twickenham in the Barbarians v South Africa match. It goes without saying that no one in the rugby league fraternity ever doubted Robinson's ability to make his mark.
