SIMON HISCOCKS and Chris Draper cut dejected figures as they emerged from the Saronic Gulf yesterday having failed to improve on the bronze medal they were guaranteed in the 49er sailing class.

After almost four years of intense preparation, the British pair felt they had underachieved in not beating the Ukrainians in the 16th and final race of the regatta to at least stand a chance of taking the silver.
