BANKING group Santander has scrapped multi-million pound redevelopment plans for its Bootle commercial banking headquarters - but insisted the Bridle Road site remains a crucial part of its UK operations.

Alliance & Leicester (A&L), former owner of the site, announced plans in April, 2007, for the pounds 20m regeneration of the site, including demolition of a 1968 ten-storey office block and the creation of more environmentally-friendly working conditions for almost 2,000 staff employed there.
