A SUDDEN surge of wickets from Liam Plunkett and Ashley Giles saw England claim a morale-boosting victory in their opening tour match against Patron's Xl after a woeful batting display.

Marcus Trescothick's 162 runs in two unbeaten innings and timely four-wicket hauls from debutant Plunkett and mainstay Giles bailed out England's Ashes heroes who were undermined by the seam and swing movement which allowed Patron's medium-pacer Yasir Arafat to collect nine wickets.
