SECONDARY schools are not doing enough to help pupils with literacy and numeracy problems, inspectors said yesterday.

Ofsted has also found that a third of maths and English lessons at primary schools are only "satisfactory". The conclusions emerged in two reports published by the inspectorate today into progress at schools across England during the 2004-2005 academic year.
