IS WEST Kirby going to suffer the same fate as New Brighton for the past 40 years in terms of development? Vociferous minority opposition from residents and other local pressure groups constantly prevented revival of this tired old former resort, leading to decay of buildings, loss of the pier and other opportunities to make this unique north eastern corner of the Wirral into the "jewel in the crown".
Then, when exciting new plans were announced for a boutique hotel and new sailing club at West Kirby, on the corresponding north west corner, once again the "diehards" swung into action. I remember writing to your paper on this issue in April, 2009. Little has changed At the time, the councillors for West Kirby - all then in opposition - almost defeated an opportunity to make West Kirby into a destination for tourists including sailors and golfers alike.See the full content of this document
