Summary
I HAVE always thought it strange that, despite the relatively low percentage of Welsh speakers, historical political unimportance, and imbalanced location, the National Assembly is located in Cardiff.
Surely a better choice would have been Caernarfon, or somewhere on Anglesey. These were both ancient seats of power, Caernarfon in the medieval, and Anglesey in the pre-Roman, period. Clearly Cardiff was chosen because it is the largest city in Wales, and because its Anglicised nature allowed better co-operation with the UK government at the time. However, now that we are looking at a further devolution of our nation, with even more independent powers, surely we should also be considering whether we want those living in North and mid Wales to be governed by Cardiff Bay? They seem to get far more investment down there now, and undoubtedly this will worsen as time goes on.See the full content of this document
