Summary
I SEE Mark Bill thinks drugs should not only be decriminalised (Letters, August 28), but that all major narcotics should be dished out free on the NHS, this on the very shallow grounds that their use is reasonably widespread. So too is speeding, mugging, shop lifting, driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol, etc. So should these also be legalised? More to the point, however, is the fact that people who have worked and paid their taxes and then are ill through no fault of their own and are facing certain death for want of a drug or treatment on good medical grounds, are being refused that treatment/drug on the grounds of cost.
A very recent report has pointed out that the present NHS drug bill is threatening to bankrupt the entire service as it outstrips the country"s GDP growth.See the full content of this document
