Summary
Skins - Complete Season Three (18) YOU'VE got to be pretty confident on the format of your show to abandon virtually all the main characters. That's exactly what Skins did for its third season as the likes of Tony and Maxxie were confined to the dustbin of TV history and we got to know a whole new intake at Roundview College. The gritty Channel 4 teen drama, propelled by a blindingly good indie soundtrack, deals with the usual teenage issues of peer pressure, sex and sexuality, drugs and alcohol (a lot) and self- loathing, but in a more forthright fashion. The first episode appears to see the show going for sheer titillation. Not only are twins added to the line-up, but one happens to be a lesbian. Cue teenage boy wet dreams all round. Thankfully it's got more to offer than that. The one link with previous series is the wonderfully enigmatic Effy (Kaya Scodelario), who attracts the attentions of wideboy chancer Cook (Jack O'Connell) and his best friends Freddie and JJ. At its worst, Skins descends into teenage stereotypes and is almost voyeuristic but, at its best, it reminds you of that fantastic "we can do anything" feeling you used to get when you, too, were young - and that's absolutely priceless. A box set, comprising all three series, is also available.
FILM . . . . EXTRAS None Gavin and Stacey - Christmas Special (12) ALONGSIDE the great news that Gavin and Stacey (surely it should be renamed Smithy and Nessa) is to return for a third season comes the DVD release of the Christmas special. More superb ensemble comedy as the two families gather in Essex for the festive season. Uncle Bryn relives the infamous fishing trip while Smithy faces up to his parental responsibilities with baby Neil. Was still outgunned over Christmas by the Royle Family.See the full content of this document
