GWYNEDD PUPILS in Gwynedd again outperformed the Welsh and UK averages in their GCSE results.

The percentage who gained grades A*-C is 70.5%, higher than the Welsh average of 66.4% and 69.1% for England and Northern Ireland.

The figure for those attaining the higher grades, A* and A, 20.1%, is also up on the Welsh average (19.2%).

The overall pass rate of 99.5% is also above the Wales and UK pass rate of 98.7% One pupil who may be forgiven for feeling a touch proud of herself is Elin Mai Morgan from Bethel.

The Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Caernarfon, pupil bagged an astonishing nine A* grades and two A grades.
