THOUGHT for the DAY

Summary

THE search for causality is at the heart of the scientific method of research. To show that A causes B, it's necessary to isolate both cause and effect factors, to remove what might intrude between them (and so confuse the results). When scientific experiments are successful in showing a high level of causality, then it's possible to predict from them.

To feel certain of our relationship to the Divine, it's worth considering this model. In the Bible, Isaiah writes: "Do not be afraid; for I am with you ...". If we want to be free from fear, then understanding we are in the presence of an allpowerful loving God gives us a reason - a cause - to feel hopeful and confident. In other words, understanding God as divine Cause - the Creator of all - has the effect of making us aware of our dependency on the only real power there is - and that is infinite good. We can then predict our future will also be safe when we trust in God's direction. And nothing can intrude into our relationship with our God; we are inseparable from our Cause, we are the divine effect.
