Summary
THIS year marks the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, the failure of which is celebrated every year with bonfires and fireworks up and down the land. But, while the historical background of the event is now all but obliterated, the noise and anti-social behaviour associated with the event is an ever-present reality for many thousands of residents in the weeks before and after November 5.
The misuse of fireworks largely stems from the unregulated sale of illegal pyrotechnics, which often fall into the hands of youths who put their own and others' safety at risk.See the full content of this document
