THE Government was urged last night to impose an immediate ban on poultry imports to the UK from any country with confirmed outbreaks of bird flu.

Conservative MEP and farmer Robert Sturdy said such a ban was essential to prevent the deadly H5N1 virus reaching the UK and threatening the commercial poultry industry.
