Summary
WITH migrants pouring into the region at the beginning of the month, I took a walk around Cabin Hill. Sandwiched between Formby and the Altcar Rifle Range, as a site it is that bit quieter than the rest of the Sefton coast. That said, when the red flags on the range are fluttering, and the crackling of army rounds echoes around the landscape, you can feel like you're strolling towards the set of a World War II b-movie. Spanish bluebells, nettles and dandelions, splashes of colour in a verdant spring landscape, drew speckled woods, green veined whites, peacocks and orange tip butterfly as I took a circuit around the scrub and lagoons, with fellow birder Neill Hunt. Having both enjoyed the female Lapland bunting found at Crosby marina recently by Tim Vaughan, we felt Cabin Hill may repay a long overdue visit.
