SEVERAL WEEKS of intense talks between the team and the England and Wales Cricket Board resulted in key players Marcus Trescothick and Andrew Flintoff yesterday being officially "rested" for this winter's controversial tour to Zimbabwe.

Coach Duncan Fletcher has been locked in a stand-off with David Morgan, the ECB's chairman, in recent days over their conflicting views about England's proposed five-match one day tour to the troubled African state.
