A BRITISH soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq was yesterday hailed by his commanding officer as a "popular soldier who died doing his duty".

Anthony John Wakefield, 24, from 1st Battalion The Coldstream Guards, died after a home-made bomb exploded while he was on patrol near the southern town of Al Amarah at about midnight Iraqi time on Sunday.
