ONE of Merseyside's most distinguished rug by players, Nick Allott, has died of motor neurone disease after a lengthy illness, aged just 40.

Allott, an extremely powerful, all action forward who could play in the second or back rows, played for Waterloo and New Brighton, as well as earning representative honours.
