Summary

WIDNES VIKINGS will submit its Super League 2012 application on Friday but won't be joining the competition a year early as what was originally thought following the Rugby Football League's decision to accept Crusaders' proposal to remain in the top flight. Vikings Chief Executive Julie Gaskell finalised the club's application at the beginning of the week and they hope that the document they submit will be enough for the RFL to allow them a return to Super League the season after next.

Widnes has been on stand-by for the past three weeks following the Crusaders debacle after there was some uncertainty over the future and viability of the Welsh club. However, that has since been resolved following meetings with RFL top brass Nigel Wood and Richard Lewis and the Wrexham based outfit will be allowed to resume in North Wales in 2011.
