COUNCILS in North Wales should take a tougher stand against 24- hour drinking after it emerged the controversial new laws failed to cut drunken violence, it was claimed last night.

A report by the Local Government Association (LGA) found that around seven in 10 police authorities, primary care trusts and councils had seen either no change or an increase in alcohol- related disorder despite the overhaul costing taxpayer over pounds 100m.
