Summary
EBAY is not the only way of harnessing the power of the internet these days. A grassroots campaign supporting the hospice and coordinating fundraising ideas has also sprung up on Facebook. This is just what the hospice wants.
The philosophy where direct fundraising is concerned, is to take a softly-softly approach, says Trefor Jones, chairman of the trustees and Lord Lieutenant of Clwyd. He has seen other charities go down the path of using paid, professional collectors to knock on doors and seek to sign people up to regular direct debits and he rejects that approach. Not only does it risk alienating people, but the collector in question takes a substantial amount of that donation for the first two years, he points out. Instead Mr Jones wants giving to be based on goodwill and the desire of people to help a worthy cause. He welcomes anyone who wishes to raise money for the hospice to do so on their own initiative - the hospice won't run the campaign for them, but will endorse and accredit bona fide campaigns. Says Trefor Jones: "We say to people, you raise the money - we won't send somebody to run it for you, run it yourselves, keep us informed but we would rather you do it.See the full content of this document
