We Need Change ; Letters to the Editor

Summary

WHY are the three main parties highlighting their commitment to political localism and the devolution of power to individuals when all three support our continued presence in the EU, which is arrogating more and more power to its undemocratic bureaucracy? Further, none of the main parties seem interested in real democratic reform, with all supporting systems that will benefit their own narrow interests.

We also need to see a real change in how the government of our country takes place - with over 6m people directly employed by the Government, many more indirectly, more still dependent on public sector pensions or benefits - resulting in too many people having a vested interest in perpetuating the status quo of a public sector dependency culture - distorting democracy. Worse is the expanded inter-connection between the Government, banking sector (dependent on public sector, ie, taxpayer largesse) and the accountancy/ auditing profession - this needs to be radically changed.
