STEVE Mc CORMACK, who has guided Whitehaven to the brink of Super League in each of the last two years, is set to succeed Frank Endacott as head coach of relegated Widnes Vikings.

The Vikings are yet to make an official comment about the link, but Whitehaven revealed last night that they are in talks with them over compensation for the loss of Mc Cormack, who is contracted to the Cumbrians until November 30 2007Whitehaven chief executive Graham Thompson said: "We were contacted by Widnes shortly after the Grand Final, who made it known that they would like to appoint Steve Mc Cormack as their head coach.
