IT is encouraging to hear from Devon that 1,500 local people have submitted letters of objection to a windfarm at Yellend. In the days before wind power, such a response to a planning application was almost unheard of and would certainly have dropped the proposal in its tracks.
However, throughout the length and breadth of the UK, Technical Advice Notes and Planning Policy Statements (TAN 8 in Wales, PPS22 in England and NPPG6 in Scotland) are being used to ensure that such democratic justice no longer exists. At Blaengwen, Carmarthenshire, 10 gigantic turbines have just been approved despite 240 letters of objection.
