READING an item on your business pages about the radio regulator, I for one whole-heartedly welcome Ofcom's decision to change the licences of two stations in an effort to safeguard local programming.

In an age of new, digital technology, there are now more radio stations than ever, but listeners seem to be paying the price with a deterioration in the quality and quantity of local news, particularly in the independent sector.
