To those who argue that certain categories of driver, such as pensioners or the disabled, should be treated more leniently when caught on camera exceeding the speed limit, should bear in mind the lives devastated as a consequence of tragedies such as this. Not just the victim, but also the offender and their respective families, as has been so poignantly illustrated in this case For vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians, death or serious injury can occur in collisions below the speed limit. Indeed in this case there is no evidence the driver was travelling faster than 30mph.
